FAQ

What are galactagogues?

Galactagogues are simple - they're foods, herbs and even prescribed medications that can help nursing mamas produce more milk. Some classic galactagogues are whole grains, certain nuts and seeds, flax and even yeast.

Many herbs are reputed to help lactation as well, including fennel, anise and cumin. Women have been eating these and other galactagogues for centuries to improve lactation. It's an easy, natural approach to improving lactation that yield results for many women.

What galactagogues does Milk Drunk contain?

First and foremost, the newest information on protein for breastfeeding moms from the USDA is that lactating women need nearly 20g more protein per day than the average non-breastfeeding woman. Our powders contain at least 17g per serving of vegan protein, making it easy for you to reach that goal.

Additionally, each serving provides milk-boosting ingredients like oat flour, brewer's yeast and ground flaxseed. Our blends with fenugreek contain 500mg of the herb per serving, and our other flavors are all herbal-free.

Is Milk Drunk gluten free? Kosher?

Yes, our protein powders are tested gluten-free. They are also dairy free and soy free. At this time we are not Kosher certified.

Can it be used as a meal replacement?

This depends entirely on your diet and caloric needs. As nursing moms often need 300-500 extra calories per day, we don’t necessarily recommend one smoothie as a meal replacement. However, if you amp up the calories in your smoothie with nut or seed butters, extra fruit, collagen peptides or other calorie-dense foods, it does make an excellent breakfast, lunch or dessert.

Can you bake with Milk Drunk?

Yes! Absolutely! We often post recipes on our Instagram account - follow us at @rawrnaturals - that include homemade protein bars, muffins, no-bake cookies, mug cakes, pancakes and more.

Where is the product manufactured?

Our protein powders are made here in Southern California (yay!) at a well-respected ISO/GMP manufacturing facility.

Is Milk Drunk vegan?

Yes! Our product is vegan. Due to many babies having sensitivities to dairy, we have chosen a pea protein for Milk Drunk products.

What is fenugreek?

Fenugreek has been the go-to herb for lactation for centuries. Some mamas and babies, however, are sensitive to the herb – and so we offer flavors with and without fenugreek. The FDA has fenugreek on the GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) list, however, like any pharmaceutical or herb, you should check with your doctor before using. Fenugreek IS NOT recommended for pregnant women.

Is the product safe to use during pregnancy?

Our herbal-free options contain only whole-food ingredients and may be used by pregnant women. As with any new addition to your diet, however, please check with your doctor.

How many servings should I consume per day?

We recommend one serving per day. After 2-3 days you should see an increase in milk production.
